Great article. I wish we had a year round market here. We have just a few winter markets in the area but they're not well advertised. I hope you are feeling well. Judy
I too am very happy to see more mainstream media coverage of local resources and eating. One of things I feared when starting life in my Local Zone was that it would be perceived by others as too "fringe-y" or fad-driven. But having more mainstream coverage and a better understanding of what it is (and the different ways to live local) has helped allay those fears. Plus, its great seeing what everyone else does.
I am an Urban Homesteader living on .29 acres in the city. Last year our family attempted to grow as much of our own food as possible, and what we could not grow (or raise), we bought from other local folks who could. What began as a challenge morphed into a lifestyle that in the end, has brought us closer together (often via canning) and saved us a lot of money. In the near future, we plan to add a new family member, a few laying hens and hopefully a small hoop house!
